Soluklan 1.0: the first release

The first version of a breathing app that listens to your breath: eleven techniques, breath tracking with the microphone, a score and a report, the intake quiz, a daily streak and widgets.

1 September 2026

The idea behind Soluklan was simple: to know whether you are really keeping to the rhythm while you do a breathing exercise. Instead of watching a circle on the screen and thinking "I suppose I'm doing it right", the phone's microphone hears your exhale and tells you at the end of the session how closely you kept to it. The first release was built around that idea.

The circle and eleven techniques

There is a circle in the middle of the session screen: breathe in as it grows, breathe out as it shrinks, hold while it stays still. The first release had eleven techniques, from box breathing to 4-7-8 and from coherent breathing to the physiological sigh. Each technique has a short tutorial where you see what to do before your first session.

We covered how your first session goes and what each part of the session screen is for in separate articles.

The microphone listens to your breath

Before the session starts, the app measures the quiet of the room for a few seconds, then looks for the sound of breathing above that quiet. Unless you give separate consent, the sound isn't recorded anywhere; what gets processed is the sound level at that moment. The details are in how the microphone listens. There is also a separate article for when your exhale isn't heard.

The score and the report

When the session ends you get a score out of a hundred and a report: how many of your exhales started on time, how long they lasted, and in which rounds you drifted. The score isn't a grade; it measures how closely you kept to the rhythm. How the score is worked out and how to read the report are in the guide.

The intake quiz and suggestions

The first time you open the app it asks a few questions: why you want to do breathing exercises, how much experience you have, and when you usually plan to do them. The answers stay on your device, and the app uses them to suggest which technique and what length suit you. The technique and length article explains how the picker works.

Streak, widgets and the Live Activity

Every day you do at least one session, your streak grows. Home Screen and Lock Screen widgets show your streak without opening the app, and if you leave the app during a session, the Live Activity on the Lock Screen keeps track of where you were. These are in the widgets and Live Activity article.

The first release was Turkish only and iPhone only. What came in later releases was built on this foundation.
