In short
- Your session records are kept on your device and backed up in your own iCloud account. We cannot reach that data.
- Your audio is never written to disk. The microphone runs only during a session, and only the instant sound level is worked out from it — how that works.
- No ads, no tracking, no third-party analytics. We have written separately on why there is no third-party code inside the app.
- You can optionally share an anonymous session summary and, now and then, an audio sample. You are asked about each separately and can turn either off whenever you like. Everything about what is kept where is in Managing your data.
Data that stays on your device
Session summaries (date, technique, length, score, report), your intake answers (goal, experience, preferred time of day, health notes), your settings and your notification preferences are stored on your device. If iCloud is on, this data syncs in your own account on Apple's iCloud infrastructure; as the developer we have no access to that area. If you delete the app, the data on the device is deleted; for the iCloud copy you can use Apple's iCloud settings.
Optional sharing
Anonymous session summary. If you turn it on, the following is sent: a randomly generated anonymous identifier, the date and time zone (not the minute or second), the technique, the length, the score, whether the session was completed, whether the microphone was used, the app version and the technical values from the session report. Your name, email address, phone number, location, device identifier and health answers are never sent. The anonymous identifier is generated inside the app only and cannot be matched to a person or to an iCloud account.
Audio sample. If you give separate permission, the audio of a few sessions (at most five a day) is sent in compressed form. This option is never shown to anyone who says they are under 13: in many countries a file containing a child's voice counts as personal data. If you did not give your age in the intake, a warning appears under the option. Its only purpose is to measure and improve the accuracy of breath detection; we have described how the thresholds are measured against real recordings in a separate article. The file that is sent is deleted from your device. If you turn this permission off, any pending audio files are deleted too.
Shared data is stored on Apple CloudKit and used only to develop the app. It is not sold or transferred to third parties. What we do with each record that arrives is in What we do with the data you share.
Permissions
- Microphone: to detect your breath. Audio is not recorded (only if you turn on the audio sample permission above is it recorded, and only in those sessions).
- Notifications: only for the reminders you set up yourself. Notifications are scheduled on your device, not sent from a server — which notification arrives when.
Children
The app is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect data from children.
Your rights
You can turn sharing off at any time in Settings → Privacy; deleting your data is in the same place. If you want records already sent to be deleted, writing to the address below is enough; if you pass on your anonymous identifier from the app, the matching records will be deleted.
