Kapalabhati
Fast, forceful exhales from the abdominal muscles. The one stimulating advanced technique in the app, the one with the longest list of who shouldn't do it, and the one the microphone measures a different way.

Pull your belly in and breathe out through the nose, short and forceful. Don't think about the inhale — it comes by itself when the belly relaxes. Repeat this faster than once a second.
This technique isn't like the others. It doesn't calm, it stimulates. You choose rounds rather than a length. And it is the technique in the app to approach most carefully.
The warning first
Don't do this technique if any of the following applies: high blood pressure, a heart condition, epilepsy, pregnancy, recent surgery, a hernia, or recent eye surgery.
These aren't advisories built on weak evidence; they are warnings repeated consistently in traditional teaching and in clinical sources. Fast, forceful exhales raise the pressure inside the abdomen and can cause sudden swings in blood pressure.
The app doesn't hide this technique from anyone who marks a health note in the intake, but it does steer away from it: the card drops to the bottom, the warning becomes firmer, and the upper limit on rounds drops.
If you feel dizzy, tingling, dimmed vision or ringing in the ears, stop immediately and go back to normal breathing. These aren't symptoms to push through.
What it is good for
Its name means "shining skull" and it is traditionally counted as a cleansing practice.
The measurable side is its stimulating effect. Studies by Telles and colleagues report increased alertness and better performance on some cognitive tasks after fast-breathing practices. Think of it like coffee: a short-lived arousal.
That is why it is done during the day and on an empty stomach, not before bed.
The other effects described in tradition — clearing the lungs, regulating digestion, "releasing toxins" — have no measured counterpart. The app doesn't write them.
What a round is
In the other techniques you pick a length; here you pick rounds. One round is twenty-five breaths done one after another, followed by half a minute of normal breathing.
The break is part of the round, not a rest. It is needed for the body to come back to itself after fast breathing.
The first session of the technique comes as a single round, twenty breaths, at one per second — slower than normal and without the break. In later sessions the pace rises to one and a half per second and you can choose from one to five rounds. It doesn't go to two per second: the risk of dizziness rises, and the microphone goes completely blind at that pace.
How to do it
Sit upright, shoulders loose. Put a hand on your belly — you'll feel the movement.
Take a normal breath in through the nose; don't fill your lungs completely.
Pull your belly sharply in and breathe out through the nose, short and forceful. Release the belly and let the inhale come by itself. Repeat rhythmically.
The movement must come from the belly. If your shoulders are moving, you are breathing out from the chest.
Why the tutorial's try-out is slow
The tutorials in the app include a hands-on round. In this technique the try-out isn't the same as the session: a normal inhale first, then three slow exhales.
The reason is simple. Giving someone who has never done it twenty-five fast pumps in a row isn't teaching. This technique is already the repetition of a single movement: learn the pump and you have learned the technique; speed comes afterwards. That is the order in yoga teaching too.
There is a second reason: the microphone can't separate individual exhales at that pace, so a fast try-out couldn't have been measured either.
How the app measures it
In the other techniques, telling that an exhale has ended needs a short silence afterwards. At one and a half breaths a second, that silence never appears.
So Kapalabhati is measured with a separate counter. Rather than trying to separate the exhales one by one, the app counts the moments when the sound line peaks and looks at how regular the gaps between them are. The report's measurement follows from that: how many breaths were counted, what fraction of the expected number that is, and how regular the rhythm was.
