Soluklan on iPhone Duo

Three states on the foldable iPhone Duo: quick start on the outer screen, the wide layout on the inner screen, and a session screen that splits in two when half-folded on a table. What happens to a session when you fold the phone.

iPhone Duo has two screens: a small one on the outside when it's folded, and a wide one on the inside when it's open. Soluklan works at its own size on both. The whole app is there on both screens; there's no cut-down version on the outer screen.

Folded: the outer screen

On the outer screen, the circle on the home screen says Quick start. Tap it and a session begins without stopping at the picker: with the technique and length suggested for you at that moment, or with today's session of your program if you have one running. Even if the quick start switch in Settings is off, the circle on the outer screen always works this way, for a short session without opening the phone. At the start of the session, a short line says which technique and how many minutes are starting. Quick start begins a session of ten minutes at most. The details are in the technique and length article.

You can also add the small Quick start widget to the Home Screen: your streak and one-tap quick start. This widget is available on every phone, but it suits the outer screen especially well. The other widgets are in the widgets and Live Activity article.

Open: the inner screen

On the inner screen the app uses the wide layout, as on a tablet: cards side by side on the home screen, a large session circle, and the round, time and technique in a strip at the bottom of the session screen. It's the same layout as in the Soluklan on a tablet article.

When the phone is open, the microphone is on the bottom edge, next to the charging port. Keep that side close to your mouth. The app reminds you of this once on the inner screen, in the technique's tutorial and at the start of a session with the microphone. If the session starts on the inner screen, the microphone facing you is selected.

Folding or unfolding

If you fold or unfold the phone during a session, the session pauses. The pause menu gives the reason: "You folded the phone, so the session paused." or "You unfolded the phone". From there you can restart the round or the session, or end the session.

Just turning the phone or half-folding it doesn't stop the session.

Half-folded: a session on the table

When you half-fold the phone and rest the lower half on a table, with the hinge horizontal, the session screen splits in two:

  • The upright upper half has the technique's name and the breathing circle. You can keep your eyes on this part alone.
  • The lower half on the table has the time left, the round information, the progress bar, the microphone strip and the short notes during the session. At the advanced level and in a shared session, your heart rate is here too. The Stop button is always at the very bottom.

At the simple level the lower half stays plain: a large time left, the technique's name and Stop. Nothing is placed over the hinge, and if the screen is very short, the two-half layout isn't used. This layout is only on the session screen; the home screen, tutorials and the report stay in the inner screen's usual layout. Holding the phone sideways like a book doesn't change the layout either.
