Soluklan on a tablet

On a tablet the screen is wider and the microphone is further away. Where to put the device, why measuring is harder than on the phone, and what stays the same.

4 min read

Everything is there on a tablet: the same techniques, the same measurement, the same report. Two things change — the width of the screen and the place of the microphone.

Where the microphone is on a tablet

iPhone and iPad

The iPad's microphone sits on the top edge (held in landscape it ends up on the top or the side, depending on the model). Unlike the phone, it is not turned towards your mouth; it usually faces up, and it is further away.

So on a tablet the exhale is heard noticeably more quietly than on the phone. The app picks the microphone closest to your mouth on a tablet, but the gap does not close completely.

Android

On Android tablets the microphone's position depends on the model: on most it is on the top edge, on some on a side edge. Wherever it is, it is not turned towards your mouth the way a phone's is, and it stays further from your face.

So on a tablet the exhale is heard noticeably more quietly than on the phone.

Practical consequence: hold the tablet closer. Instead of putting it on a table and leaning over it, take it on your lap or put it on a stand with the microphone edge turned towards you. If it still isn't heard, rule out the distance and then the room. The thresholds themselves are set from real recordings.

Android

Vibration

Most Android tablets have no vibration motor. So even with session rhythm haptics on, you may not feel anything on a tablet. Follow the rhythm with the circle on the screen: breathe in as it grows, out as it shrinks.

Everything that stays the same

Scoring, the report, the streak, programs, reminders and badges are identical to the phone — How a session is scored, History, summaries and achievements, Setting up a program and keeping it.

iPhone and iPad

Session history syncs between devices through iCloud, so a session you did on the phone shows up on the iPad: Managing your data.

Widgets and Live Activity work on iPad as well.

Android

On Android, session history does not sync between devices: the tablet keeps its own history and backs it up to your Google account through Android's automatic backup. A session you did on the phone does not show up on the tablet.

If this is your first time on a tablet

If you're using the app on a tablet for the first time, the intake quiz appears here too, and the first session runs through the same flow.

iPhone and iPad

If you did the intake on the phone, your answers and settings, including the interface level, come over to the iPad through iCloud.
